Sabae ( Japanese 鯖 江 市 , - shi ) is a city in Fukui Prefecture , Japan .
etymology
The name of the town literally means "Mackerel River / Bay". However, this is said to come from sabaya , which refers to the Ohohiko no Mikoto, venerated in the local Funtatsu shrine, who is said to have pacified the region in antiquity and used an arrow ( ya ) in a fight against a rebel , the fletching of which is like a tail Mackerel ( saba ) is said to have looked like.
history
Various daimyo resided in Sabae one after the other, most recently from 1720 to 1868 the manabe in a permanent house ( jinya ).
On January 15, 1955 , the place was raised to the city.
