Mihama ( Japanese 美 浜 町 , -chō ; literally: beautiful beach ) is a community in Mikata County in Fukui Prefecture in Japan .
It is located about 270 kilometers west of Tokyo in the Senjochi Valley on the Mimi River .
In addition to rice , persimmons and kaki are also grown. In the vicinity of the city are the lakes Mikatago , Kugushi and Hiruga .
The Mihama nuclear power plant is located near Mihama, in Nyū . There was an incident on August 9, 2004 with at least 4 fatalities.
