Manchester United Football Squad
Under the name Manchester United Football Squad (or Manchester United Football Club ), the English football club Manchester United published the song Come On You Reds as an anthem for fans in 1994 after they had won the double (national championship and cup) . The "Reds" - because of their red jerseys - managed to put the best-selling single in the UK for two weeks and to be awarded silver , despite the rather small potential buyers .
The melody for the hit comes from the song Burning Bridges by Status Quo , which was already at number 5 in the English charts in 1988 and was itself a stadium anthem. It was also Status Quo who produced and recorded the version of Manchester United, with the vocal support of the successful players of the championship team, all of whom were also immortalized in the lyrics
- Flatterer, Parker, Pallister
- Irwin, Bruce, Sharpe and Ince
- Hughes, McClair, Keane and Cantona
- Robson, Kanchelskis and Giggs
like the successful trainer Alex Ferguson .
In the following year without a title, We're Gonna Do It Again, also produced by Status Quo, came in 6th, as did another year later after another double with Move Move Move (The Red Tribe) . With Lift It High (All About Belief) (No. 11) to the club for the last time the home side's chart entry.
In England in particular, football anthems have a long tradition in the charts. Since the World Cup participants of the English national team had a number one hit with Back Home in 1970 , there have been repeated recordings of national and club teams.
