The Manchester and Keene Railroad is a former railroad company in New Hampshire ( United States ). It was founded on June 22, 1864 and built a standard gauge railway line from Keene to Greenfield , which could be opened in 1878. The 30 miles long route is the western extension of the Peterborough Railroad .

From October 1, 1880 to October 20, 1881, the railroad was operated by the Connecticut River Railroad , which owned the extension of the route beyond Keene to East Northfield. As of 1882, half of the railway company belonged to the Boston and Lowell Railroad and the other half to the Concord Railroad . The Boston & Lowell led the operation and leased from July 1, 1884 to December 1, 1885 the portion of the Concord Railroad. In 1889 the Concord Railroad was part of the newly founded Concord and Montreal Railroad , which took over the stake in Manchester & Keene. The Boston and Maine Railroad, which had taken over Boston & Lowell in 1887, first leased their share and from 1895 also the share of Concord & Montreal. Manchester & Keene was soon dissolved. Today the Greenfield – Elmwood section belongs to the Milford-Bennington Railroad . The rest of the route is closed.
