Mandolin banjo
The mandolin banjo (also mandolin banjo , often also banjoline ) is an 8-string plucked instrument . It combines structural features of the banjo with the stringing and body and neck length of the mandolin .
The first mandolin banjo was patented in 1885, and it became really popular from 1890 onwards. Typical of the instrument is the extended fingerboard that extends over the shell .
From 1910 the mandolin banjo was often used as an accompanying instrument in dance music . However, the double strings (8 strings) resulted in undesirable side effects and so many musicians simply left out the double strings (4 strings). The manufacturers became aware of this and soon a four-string banjo, tuned like the mandolin, came onto the market, the banjolin . The mood of the mandolin banjo is g d 'a' e ''.
A cümbüş variant is common in Turkey . It has an aluminum body.
