Mandy Sonnemann is a former German Ju Jutsu athlete.

Professional background

From 2008 to 2016 she was a member of the national team in Ju Jutsu. She was also a member of the Lower Saxony Police Sports Promotion Group. So she was able to do competitive sports during her training as a police officer at the Police Academy in Nienburg.

Awards

Mandy Sonnemann won the World Games once, was world champion three times and European champion once in the class up to 55 kg. As a newcomer, she won the gold medal at the World Championships in St. Petersburg for the first time in 2010 and then did not lose a fight until her weight class change in 2014. In 2011 and 2012, she successfully defended her world title in the -55 kg class.

In 2013 she was first European champion in Ju Jutsu in the class up to 55 kg and in July she won the World Games 2013 , the most important tournament for non-Olympic sports. For this achievement, their Federal President Joachim Gauck awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on October 23, 2013 . She was also named Lower Saxony Sportswoman of the Year in 2012 and 2013.

After a long break, she switched to the weight class up to 62 kg in 2014. Here she took part in the European Cup in Bucharest and went straight to the final. A broken arm prevented her victory, and she won the silver medal. After a long break from injury, she won the bronze medal again at the 2015 World Cup. She then ended her active career in early 2016.
