Manfred Lentzen

Manfred Lentzen (born July 15, 1940 in Dormagen ) is a German Romance studies and literary scholar.

life and work

Lentzen passed the Abitur in Mönchengladbach- Rheydt and from 1960 studied Romance and Classical Philology at the University of Cologne . In 1965 he received his doctorate there with the dissertation of Carlos Arniches . From "género chico" to "tragedia grotesca" (Minard / Droz, Geneva / Paris 1966) and was Fritz Schalk's assistant from 1965 to 1970 . In 1970 he completed his habilitation with the work Studies on Dante Exegesis Cristoforo Landinos (Böhlau, Cologne 1971) and in 1972 became a scientific adviser and professor. From 1974 until his retirement he held the chair for Romance Philology at the University of Münster, with special emphasis on Italian philology.

Lentzen published four volumes of individual interpretations on 20th century Italian literature (Schmidt, Berlin 2000–2008). Since 1999 he has been co-editor of the archive magazine for the study of modern languages ​​and literatures .
