Manifa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manifa is a large, offshore submarine oil field in Saudi Arabia . It was discovered in 1957 and initially closed again after being opened up.

The field contains heavy fuel oil with high proportions of vanadium and hydrogen sulfide , which for a long time was not considered to be refined. In the course of the construction of further modern refineries, the oil from Manifa should make an important contribution to increasing the capacity of the Saudi oil output, which was planned for the period after 2009.

Preparatory work on the oil field began again in 2006, and drilling should begin in 2008 after the contract has been signed. However, this was delayed until the first quarter of 2010, which is why the planned commissioning for 2011 could not be adhered to. Completion in 2015 was assumed in September; first oil production should begin in 2013. For the development of the Manifa oil field, a Belgian company built numerous artificial islands, a dam road and extensive bridges in the shallow water.
