The Manipur State Congress Party ( MSCP ) is a regional party in the Indian state of Manipur that existed between 1997 and 2014.

Party history

The party was founded in 1997 by dissidents of the Congress Party under the leadership of Wahengbam Nipamacha in Manipur. The party provided the government and chief minister of Manipur from 1997 to 2001 . She was also briefly represented in the Indian government under Prime Minister Vajpayee with a post of State Secretary . After the loss of government power in Manipur, there were internal party disputes and a faction split off under the name of Manipur National Conference . In the following time the political importance of the party continued to decline.

Before the 2014 general election , there was speculation about plans to reunite the MSCP with the Congress Party. On April 3, 2014, all five members of the MSCP parliamentary group in the Manipur parliament, along with a significant number of the MSCP governing bodies, including Party President Gaikhangam Gangmei, joined the Congress Party. However, not all party members of the MSCP agreed with the union. The MSCP thus de facto dissolved.
