Cabinet Vajpayee III
The Vajpayee III cabinet was the third government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was formed after India's general election in 1999 . On October 13, 1999, the Prime Minister and his cabinet were sworn in by President KR Narayanan . Apart from individual personnel changes, the government held office for a full legislative period of five years until the 2004 parliamentary elections .
The 1999 elections were won by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a multi-party coalition led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Also because many personnel claims of the coalition partners had to be taken into account, the coalition cabinet had a record number of 70 members (the prime minister, 25 cabinet ministers, 7 ministers of state with their own independent area of responsibility and 37 ministers of state without an independent area of responsibility).
