Shripad Yesso Naik ( Marathi श्रीपाद येस्सो नाईक Śrīpād Yesso Nāīk ; born October 4, 1952 in Adpai , Goa ) is an Indian politician.

Life

Naik is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Minister of State with his own area of responsibility in the Modi I cabinet . He is also known as the yoga minister . Naik began his political activities in his home state Goa and then switched to federal politics. In 2003 he became Minister of State for Agriculture in the Vajpayee III cabinet and held various government offices in the following years, including a. as Minister of State with his own area of responsibility for culture and tourism.

In 2014 he became Minister of State in the first Modi cabinet with his own area of responsibility for the Ministry of Ayurveda , Yoga , Naturopathy, Unani , Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) as well as for Health and Family. His area of responsibility included teachings such as yoga and Ayurveda, which come from ancient Indian tradition and are propagated by the BJP according to their Hindu orientation. In Modi's second cabinet (from May 31, 2019) he was again Minister of State for AYUSH and, in his second area of responsibility, Minister of State for Defense.

Naik is married and has three sons.
