Cabinet of Manmohan Singh II
After the election victory of the United Progressive Alliance led by the Indian National Congress in the parliamentary elections in India in 2009 , the old and new Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was sworn in on May 22, 2009. This was preceded by intensive coalition negotiations, as not only the claims of the coalition parties had to be satisfied, but also the proportional representation between the individual states and the representation of religious minorities had to be taken into account.

Cabinet reshuffles
When it was first presented, the Manmohan Singh II cabinet had a total of 79 members - 34 ministers, seven state secretaries with their own area of responsibility and 38 state secretaries who were subordinate to a minister. In the course of the legislative period, the size and composition of the cabinet changed several times as a result of numerous cabinet reshuffles. Major cabinet reshuffles took place in January 2011, July 2011, October 2012 and June 2013.
Of the original 34 ministers, 28 belonged to the Indian National Congress (INC), three from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and one each from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) ) on. The political alliances changed during the legislative period: The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) joined the governing coalition in December 2011 and was then given a ministerial post. In contrast, the Trinamool party withdrew from government in September 2012 and the DMK in March 2013, whereupon the ministers of these parties resigned.
