Cabinet Rao
The Rao Cabinet was established in India on June 21, 1991 by Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao of the Indian National Congress (INC). It replaced the Chandra Shekhar cabinet and remained in office until May 16, 1996, after which it was replaced by the Vajpayee I cabinet .
In the early parliamentary elections on May 20, 12 and 15 June 1991 , which the INC of the assassination of former Prime Minister and Chairman Rajiv Gandhi were overshadowed May 21, 1991, the INC won 232 of the 523 seats in the Lok Sabha , while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received 120 and Janata Dal (JD) 59 seats. PV Narasimha Rao of the INC then formed a new government on June 21, 1991. In the parliamentary elections on April 27, May 2 and 7, 1996 , the INC received the most votes, but lost 7.46 percentage points and only had 140 of the 545 MPs. Due to the right to vote, the BJP, which had almost 30 million votes less than the INC, became the strongest parliamentary group in the Lok Sabha with 161 seats . The JD had 46 parliamentarians and remained the third largest force. As the first head of government in India, he was convicted of bribery in a criminal case and was overthrown on May 16, 1996 in a vote of no confidence. As a result, the BJP politician Atal Bihari Vajpayee formed a minority government on May 16, 1991 . However, since he could not find a majority for his government, Vajpayee submitted his resignation on June 1, 1996 after just under two weeks in office.
