Charan Singh's cabinet
The Charan Singh cabinet was formed in India on July 28, 1979 by Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh of the Janata Party (Secular) (JNP (S)). It replaced the Desai cabinet and remained in office until January 14, 1980, after which it was replaced by the Indira Gandhi III cabinet . The government included ministers from the Janata Party (Secular), the Indian National Congress (Socialist) (INC (S)) and the Congress for Democracy (CFD).
In the early parliamentary elections on January 3 and 6, 1980 , Charan Singh's party, which had since been renamed Lok Dal , as well as the previously ruling JNP suffered landslide losses and together only got 72 of the 525 seats in the Lok Sabha . The winner of the election was the Indian National Congress (INC) of the former long-time Prime Minister Indira Gandhi , which received 351 seats and thus has a comfortable absolute majority. Indira Gandhi then became Prime Minister again.
