Shyam Nandan Mishra

Shyam Nandan Mishra (born October 20, 1920 in Gonawan , Patna District , Bihar ; † October 25, 2004 in Kadamkuan , Patna District, Bihar) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress (INC) and the INC Organization (INC-O) who was Foreign Minister for a few months between 1979 and 1980 .

Life

Mishra was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly in 1947 after the sovereignty of India and was subsequently Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru . In the elections in 1952 and 1957 he was elected as a candidate for the Indian National Congress to the Lok Sabha , the lower house of the Indian parliament .

In 1969 he left the Indian National Congress with a few other politicians and together with them founded the Indian National Congress Organization (INC-O). After his election as member of the House of Lords, Rajya Sabha , he was opposition leader there . After Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in 1975, Mishra, who had been a close friend of Jayaprakash Narayan's since the 1970s , was arrested and imprisoned in Bangalore Prison.

On July 28, 1979, Mishra was appointed by Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh of the Janata Party as Foreign Minister in his cabinet and was a member of this until the end of his term on January 13, 1980.
