Ram Naik

Ram Naik (born April 16, 1934 in Atapadi , Sangli District , Maharashtra ) is an Indian politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was the 19th governor of Uttar Pradesh .

Career

Ram Naik was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since childhood . He has a law degree. He began his political career in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1969. He was elected to the State Assembly of Maharashtra in 1978 in the Borivli constituency and was re-elected twice. From 1989 to 2004 he represented the BJP in the Lok Sabha as a parliamentarian. From 1999 to 2004 he was also Indian Minister for Oil and Gas.

On July 14, 2014, he was appointed governor of Uttar Pradesh. He remained in office until July 28, 2019 and was replaced by Anandiben Patel .

Personal

He married Kunda Naik on May 17, 1960 and has two daughters.
