Man carving

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mannsschnitz (machine cut) was a common measure of area in the Swiss Graubünden in vineyards. The estimate was an area with the stock of vines that a man could cut in one day. The size corresponded to an area with around 1000 vines, later only 500 vines due to different vines spacing. The measure has been evidently mentioned since 1804. In the metric system in 1877 it was completely replaced by the measure Are.
