Manuel Alonso Pria was a Mexican soccer player in the position of striker .

society

Manuel Alonso probably began his career at Club España , with which he was Mexican champion in the 1933/34 season . For the 1934/35 season, Alonso moved to the Spanish Primera División for Racing Santander . After a year he returned to the Mexican capital club España, with which he again won the championship in the 1935/36 season. There is evidence that Alonso also played for España in the 1937/38 season and for Club Marte between 1942 and 1947 . In the 1942/43 season he scored 17 goals in 14 games, making him not only top scorer of the Primera Fuerza , but also made an important contribution to Club Marte's championship win.

National team

Manuel "Manolo" Alonso made five appearances for the Mexican national team , in which he scored seven goals. He made his debut on March 18, 1934 in a World Cup qualifier against Cuba, which Mexico won 4-1 and to which Alonso contributed two goals. Alonso was also there in the decisive final World Cup qualifier on May 24, 1934 against the USA, but despite a goal he was unable to prevent his team from losing 4-2. In September 1937 he was used in two friendly matches against the USA, in which he failed to score in the first game (7-2), but in the second game he contributed three goals to Mexico's 7-3 victory. Alonso completed his last international match on February 14, 1938 against Venezuela, where he scored the "golden goal" for Mexico's 1-0 victory.

Ambiguities

There is no clarity for his activity between 1938 and 1942. It is noticeable, however, that in the seasons 1939/40 and 1941/42 a player named "Domingo" Alonso was named in the championship teams of Club España . Possibly this was another nickname for "Manolo" Alonso, but this is by no means certain.
