Manufaktura is one of the largest shopping centers in Poland in the city of Łódź .

History of the site

The area of today's manufactory was originally the site of the Izrael Poznański textile factory . In the 19th century it was one of the largest such factories in the world. In addition to the actual factories, the extensive property also housed workers' apartments, a power station, schools, etc. During the Second World War, the factory was expropriated by the Germans and nationalized after the end of the German occupation. After the end of the People's Republic of Poland , the company was declared bankrupt in 1991 ; In 1992 it was closed. In 1999 the company Apsys Polska expressed interest in converting the area of the former textile factory into a shopping and entertainment center. The French funds Foncière Euris and Paris Orléans made it possible to revitalize the district thanks to their co-financing of the project. In 2002, the city of Łódź granted permission to build the manufactory, and work began the following year. The opening took place on May 17, 2006.
