Marathon (son of Epopeus)

Marathon ( gr. Μαραθών) was in Greek mythology the son of Epopeus , king of Sicyon . He fled to Attica from his abusive father . After the death of Epopeus he returned to his homeland and handed over rule to his sons. Sikyon was Asopia, later Sikyon and Corinth received Ephyra, later Corinth .

Marathon settled in Attica in the place that was later named after him Marathon . After Plutarch , however, another marathon was namesake.
