Marc Pierini

Marc Pierini (* in Marseille ) is a French EU diplomat and currently visiting professor at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace think tank in Brussels.

After studying economics at the University of Aix , Pierini worked from 1976 to 2012 as a diplomat for the European Community and its successor organization, the European Union . From 1991 to 1995 he was ambassador to Morocco , from 1998 to 2002 he represented the EU in Syria and from 2002 to 2006 in Tunisia and Libya . After that he was ambassador and head of delegation of the EU in Turkey until 2011 . Pierini has been visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace think tank since April 2012 , where he researches the development of the Middle East and Turkey.

From 1995 Marc Pierini was one of the leading delegates in the Barcelona process , from 2004 to 2007 he was negotiator in the dispute between Bulgaria and Libya in connection with the Libyan HIV process .
