Marcello Grottesi (born March 8, 1939 in Rome ) is an Italian painter and filmmaker.

Life

Grottesi had early contact with the Italian film scene, lived for some time in Nice and had his first exhibition as an artist in Rome in 1965. There he also studied numerous forms of performing arts with artist friends: painting, sculpture, photography, cinema and theater. In 1968 the short film "Zoomtrack" was made about the group of artists, which disbanded in 1969.

In 1968 and 1971 two feature films with a strongly experimental character were made under Grottesis direction, which were shown in Cannes and at the Mannheim Film Festival . The second published Il gesto received the "Titano d'Oro" in 1972. Numerous short films followed.

Grottesi was able to exhibit in Venice in 1976, the following year and often again in Rome, where he was able to present his works in galleries and museums again and again until 2010. In the 1990s a number of exhibitions were held in Germany, where he lived for three years. In 2006 he presented his memories in book form.
