Marco Di Lauro (born June 16, 1980 in Naples ) is a high-ranking Italian mafioso who belongs to the Camorra .

family

Di Lauro is the fourth son of Paolo Di Lauro and Luisa D'Avanzo. He has nine brothers and one adoptive sister. Until his arrest in 2005, his father was the boss of the powerful Di Lauro clan , which controls the drug trade in and around Naples. The clan operates from Scampia and Secondigliano . Most of Di Lauro's brothers are imprisoned and serving long sentences for their Camorra ties.

Life

Marco Di Lauro was involved in the family's Mafia activities from an early age. For example, he helped his father and his eldest brother, Cosimo Di Lauro , spy out various meeting places in order to avoid potential murder conspiracies.

After the Amato Pagano clan broke away from the Di Lauro clan in 2004, a gang war broke out that claimed over 130 lives and became known as the Scampia feud . During this time, the clan was responsible for numerous murders of members of warring gangs and their relatives. Many of the murders were personally commissioned by Cosimo and Marco Di Lauro.

Escape

Since December 7, 2004 Marco Di Lauro had gone into hiding after the so-called "Night of the Handcuffs", a large-scale police raid against the Mafia, from which he was able to evade. Di Lauro was one of the most wanted criminals in Italy during his 14-year escape. Since December 2006, he has been searched for internationally. In 2010, a judicial collaborator accused Di Lauro of commissioning at least four murders.

Since the search for him began, there have been repeated reports of Di Lauro's sightings at various locations. There were also arrests of people who, because of their appearance, were mistaken for Di Lauro.

arrest

On March 2, 2019, he was arrested in a raid by the Italian police and the Carabinieri in a hiding place in Marianella , in the north of Naples. He was unarmed when he was arrested. The authorities became aware of unusual activity in the apartment following a murder committed by a person close to Di Lauro.
