Marcus Gunn pupil sign
The Marcus Gunn pupil sign , named after the Scottish ophthalmologist Robert Marcus Gunn , is a relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD) with a reduced light reaction on the affected side. It can be triggered as a clinical symptom by an ophthalmological examination, the swinging flashlight test , for example in the case of retrobulbar neuritis . The Marcus Gunn pupil sign is an important finding for the detection of a unilateral lesion of the optic nerve . It can also be found in retinal diseases and glaucoma patients with correspondingly pronounced visual field defects .
