Marcus Arruntius Frugi

Marcus Arruntius Frugi (full name form Marcus Arruntius Marci filius Sergia Frugi ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 2nd century AD . Individual stations in his career are known through an inscription dated 127/130.

Frugi's military career consisted of the usual tres militiae for a member of the equestrian order . First, as prefect , he took over the management of the Cohors III Ulpia Petraeorum , which was stationed in the province of Cappadocia . He then became a tribunus militum in the Legio XIII Gemina , which was stationed in Dacia . The third stage was the command as prefect of an Ala Parthorum sagittariorum .

After his military career, Frugi took on civil functions in administration. Perhaps his first task was to conduct a census in the province of Britannia ( procuratori Augusti provinciae Britanniae ad census ). He then worked as Augusti procurator in the province of Cilicia ; this post was linked to an annual income of 100,000 sesterces . This was followed by the post of Procurator Augusti for the province of Cappadocia and adjacent areas ( provinciae Cappadociae et Armeniae minoris et Ponti mediterranei ); this post was associated with an annual income of 200,000 sesterces.

Frugi was inscribed in the Sergia tribe . It probably came from Iconium , where the inscription was found.

Remarks

  1. There were several units with this designation (see Ala Parthorum ). The inscription does not reveal which unit Frugi commanded. Hans-Georg Pflaum and David L. Kennedy assign it to the Ala Parthorum (Cappadocia) , which was stationed in the province of Cappadocia .
  2. It is uncertain whether the line Britan (niae) ad census provin (ciae) was even included in the inscription .
