Marcus Fulvius Bambalio
Marcus Fulvius Bambalio was a descendant of the Roman noble family of the Fulvians and the father of Fulvia , the wife of Marcus Antonius .
Life
Although Fulvius Bambalio belonged to the plebeian nobility and was a descendant of the famous Fulvians, he would have been little appreciated if Cicero is to be believed. He got his nickname Bambalio (= Stammler) because of his stuttering way of speaking. He married the plebeian Sempronia, who belonged to the Sempronii Tuditani family. The daughter Fulvia, who came from this marriage, married the triumvir Marcus Antonius. The Roman historian Cassius Dio used the remarks of Antonius' opponent Marcus Tullius Cicero about Fulvia's father in the self-written speeches of his historical work, which he puts in the mouths of Cicero and Calenus , especially to play on the nickname of Marcus Fulvius.
