from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marcus Philosophus was allegedly Roman Emperor in 244 between Gordian III. and Philip Arabs .

Zonaras reports that on the news of Gordians III. Death the philosopher Marcus was proclaimed "Caesar" by the Senate. However, he dies shortly afterwards in the palace, before he can secure his power. Thereupon a Severus Hostilianus swung himself up to the emperor. However, only a short time later, he too died as a result of bloodletting that he had had due to an illness. Then Philip Arabs arrives in Rome (244). All information is probably fictitious.
