Margaret Skjelbred (born January 25, 1949 in Stokke ) is a Norwegian writer .

life and work

Skjelbred is a trained nurse and has worked at Vestfold Central Hospital for twenty years . She became known in Norway as a poet. She made her debut in 1983 with the tape "Det er aleine du er". This was followed by the poetry collections “Skilderier” (1985) and “Bakkesøte, øyentrøst” (1989), as well as several children's books.

In 1997 she made her debut novel with "Lerkehjerter" ( Lerchenherzen , Ger . 1999). The novel is the first part of the trilogy The Vestfold Saga . This was followed by the parts “Vildresinn” (1998; Windgesang , German 2001) and “Alvemål” (2000; Elfenecho , German 2003). In autumn 2001 her fourth novel "Om forlatelse" (German forgiveness ) was published, followed in 2003 by "Gulldronning, perledronning" ( The Pearl Queen , German 2006). Her sixth novel "Andrea D" was published in 2006. The autobiographical novel "Mors bok" ( Mother's book ) followed in 2009, followed by the novel "Du Skal elske lyset" ( You should love light ) in 2011 .

Awards

Skjelbred has received several Norwegian literary awards: Prøysenprisen (1989), Tønsberg kommunes kulturpris (1994), Vestfolds Litteraturpris (2000) and Amalie Skram -prisen (2005).
