Margareta Karthäuserin

Margareta Karthäuserin lived as a nun in the Catherine's Monastery in Nuremberg in the 15th century .

She was a skilled musician and copied eight chorale books between 1458 and 1470. These are kept in the Nuremberg City Library.

Margareta Karthäuserin was one of ten sisters from the Schönensteinbach Monastery who had been sent to Nuremberg to include the monastery in the Dominican reform movement. Margareta specialized in copying books for the liturgy. The works were illustrated a. a. by Barbara weightmaker.

In the modern reception area, Judy Chicago dedicates an inscription to her on the triangular floor tiles of the Heritage Floor of the installation The Dinner Party . The porcelain tile inscribed with the name Margareta Karthauserin is assigned to the place with the place setting for Christine de Pizan .
