Marghusor Lakes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Marghusor Lakes ( Tajik Ҳафткӯл Haftkūl , German 'Siebenseen' - the international name comes from the largest of the lakes, the Marghusor [ Марғузор ]), also written Marguzor Lakes , are seven lakes in the Tajik part of the Hissar Mountains .

Legend

According to an old legend, the lakes were created after a man was lost in the valley. His seven daughters looked for him in the Hissar Mountains, but could not find him and began to cry. They filled the valley with their tears and finally drowned. The seven lakes with their beauty and diversity represent the seven daughters.

Lakes

The seven lakes are:

  • Mishgon ( Мижгон ), located at 1640 m above sea level. The mixed gon lies between two mountain slopes and therefore has a narrow shape.
  • Soja ( Соя , Russian Сая Saja ), 1740 m, the name translates as 'shadow', as the sun never shines on the surface.
  • Huschjor ( Ҳушёр , Russian Гушор Guschor ), 1770 m, the Huschjor is the starting point for many climbing and hiking tours. There used to be a campsite here, but it was destroyed by a mudslide .
  • Nofin ( Нофин ), 1820 m, the Nofin is the longest of the Marghusor lakes with a length of two kilometers.
  • Churdak ( Хурдак ), 1870 m, the name translated means 'the little one', since the Churdak is the smallest of all Marghusor lakes.
  • Marghusor ( Марғузор ), 2140 m, the eponymous lake is the largest. It is enclosed by steep cliffs and is characterized by its deep blue water.
  • Hasortschaschma ( Ҳазорчашма ), 2332 m, translated 'thousand springs', the Hasortschaschma is fed by many small springs and rivers.

The seven lakes are characterized by the clear water that flows into the lakes mainly as meltwater from the higher-lying glaciers. The lakes are also popular as an excursion destination, the Tajik President Emomali Rachmon has his summer residence near the Marghusor Lakes.
