Annunciation in Chyše
Way of the Cross to the Church

The Annunciation Church also Exaltation Church (Czech Kostel Zvěstování Panny Marie ) on the Spitzberg on the edge of the Czech town Chyše (German Chiesch ) is a protected monument.

history

Chiesch was first mentioned in 1169. Since the middle of the 14th century, a Gothic Annunciation Church stood on the Spitzberg outside the village . Before it was converted into a burial church, it was the parish church of Chiesch. The Riesenburg family owned the patronage rights. Since 1370 it belonged to Boresch V. von Riesenburg and Beschau . Since 1475 the place was a small town. The church has been destroyed and rebuilt several times over the years.

In 1627 Baron Georg Wilhelm Michna von Waizenau reintroduced the Carmelites to Chiesch and gave them the administration of the parish church on the Spitzberg to increase their income. The clergyman should be proposed by the head of the Carmelite order and confirmed by the landlord.

Today's church was left by the then owner of the lordship Baron Karl von Michna von Waizenau and his wife Anna Ludmilla nee. Countess Kolovrat of Krakovský built. The foundation stone was laid on December 5, 1697. The builder was Johann Baptist Rapp. The basic features of the early baroque church were completed by 1710 and were consecrated in 1713. After their death, the builders Karl and Anna Ludmilla von Michna found their final resting place in the crypt. The Counts of Lazansky were buried there since 1766.

In the course of the Josephine reforms , the Carmelite monastery in Chiesch was dissolved and the former Maria Schnee monastery church was designated as the parish church of Chiesch. Because of the surrounding Gottesackers, the original parish church of the Annunciation was converted into a cemetery church. In 1854 a complete restoration took place under the supervision of the Prague architect Ignác Ullmann. In 1863 a way of the cross to the church was built. Further repairs were made in 1914 and 1937.

After the expulsion of the German population after 1945, the church remained unused and consequently found itself in a poor state of construction. More recently, parts of the outer facade have been repaired with the help of donations. As a result, the church also received a new roof. The total cost of the repair would be CZK 2 million.

description

It is a three-nave baroque church with a semicircular presbytery. The facade has two towers and is divided by pilasters. There are semicircular windows one above the other on two floors and rectangular windows in the towers. The presbytery and the nave are curved by a barrel vault with panes.

Furnishing

The interior is mainly in the baroque style of the early 18th century. The main altarpiece originally showed the Annunciation and was replaced in 1854 by a new picture of the crucifixion of Christ by the Prague painter Josef Hellrich. The side altars represent St. John the Evangelist, the Virgin Mary, and in the nave, St. Apollonia and St. Johannes von Nepomuk. The pulpit dates from the time it was built around 1700/15. An old painting of St. Anne used to be venerated in the church.

Peal

Two bells from 1520 and 1572 hang in the towers.
