The Church of the Most Holy Virgin Mary Star of the Sea (also Stella Maris Church , Polish Kóściół Najświętszej Mariy Panny Gwiazdy Morza ) is a Roman Catholic parish church in Świnoujście (Swinoujscie) on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom in Poland .

history

In 1895 a church was built for the Catholic community in Swinoujscie, the first in the city. The architect was Engelbert Seibertz from Charlottenburg. On July 22nd, 1896 she was consecrated to the patronage Maria Meeresstern and belonged to the diocese of Breslau at that time. It was the only Catholic church in Swinoujscie until 1945 and was also used by Polish seasonal workers.

It remained undamaged in 1945. Today it is the parish church in the Archdiocese of Stettin-Cammin.

Architecture and interior design

The church is built in neo-Gothic style from red brick and has a west tower.

The interior is partially preserved from the time it was built. The organ is from the workshop of Barnim Grüneberg from 1903 and has nine registers with two manuals and pedal (Opus 472).
