Maria Formosa (Pula)

Maria Formosa Church in Pula

The early Christian church of Maria Formosa in Pula , a city in Croatia , was built in the 6th century. The church is a protected cultural monument .

The church was part of the Benedictine abbey that was destroyed in the 16th century . The floor and walls were decorated with mosaics , the remains of which are in the Archaeological Museum of Istria in Pula.

Here and in other places, under the influence of northern Italy, standard floor plans for basilicas were executed, which are characterized by a polygonal apse .
