Maria Königin is a Roman Catholic church in Tuttlingen .

History and construction

After the Second World War, the city of Tuttlingen grew very quickly. The number of Catholics also increased sharply , particularly through displaced persons . So, in addition to the parish church of St. Gallus from 1872, a second Catholic church was required. Initially, the community used a makeshift facility in the Mühlau camp for German prisoners of war, but this church had to give way to the construction of the school complex. Finally, a suitable building site was found in the western part of the city. The plan by architects Franz J. Gottschlich and Max W. Schrauben from Tuttlingen was finally implemented. The groundbreaking ceremony was on March 4, 1961, the foundation stone was blessed by Archabbot Benedikt Reetz on September 25, 1961 and the consecration by Bishop Carl Joseph Leiprecht on May 18, 1963.

The structure is an undivided cuboid with a free-standing bell tower. Inside, the room gets its effect mainly from the large stained glass windows in concrete truss technology . Franz Bucher , Wilhelm Geyer and Emil Kiess contributed to the artistic design .
