Maria Kasterska
Maria Kasterska-Sergescu (born February 2, 1894 in Warsaw , † December 7, 1969 in Paris ) was a Polish writer and literary scholar.
The daughter of an impoverished large landowner family grew up in Podlasie and attended the Russian high school in Biała Podlaska. In 1914 she emigrated to Paris and studied French literature at the Sorbonne . She worked for the magazine Les nouvelles littéraires , where she published literary reviews and her own works. In the period between the world wars she returned to Podlasie. In 1928, Ernest Leroux's publishing house published her Contes et legends de Podlachie in French. In the 1930s she lived in Romania with her husband, the mathematician Petre Sergescu , where she published articles in various literary magazines and was involved in feminist associations and charities. Kasterska was awarded the Prix de l'Académie française .
