Maria Pokorny

Maria Pokorny (born July 5, 1888 in Vienna ; † February 14, 1966 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

After completing compulsory school, Maria Pokorny learned the profession of flower maker. She also worked as a tram conductor, debt collector for the “Anker” life insurance company and an official for the “Ostmark” insurance company. Later she was employed by Volkshilfe and head of a welfare office .

She was politically active in the Social Democratic Workers' Party in Vienna / Ottakring . In the years 1937–1938 she served a political prison sentence, after the Anschluss she was sentenced to two years in prison in 1939. In 1949 she was a member of the Austrian National Council from January 19 to November 8, 1949 .
