Maria zum Buche
Maria zur Buche is the name of a chapel in the Nittendorf district of Undorf .
If you walk past the Undorf secondary school in the direction of the Loch Castle ruins , you will pass a forest. There is a chapel made of oak trunks, which was formerly known as the "Blaslkapelle" and today as "Maria zur Buche".
The original name refers to the builder of the chapel. Blasl is an old Undorf house name for a property on Mühlweg. In 1803, Blasius Waldmann from Schönhofen bought the stable and built a residential building with stables there.
The following results from reports from the former local home attendant Paul Lax and Xaver Ettinger: A strong branch on the beech had broken off. Around the time of the First World War, a pious Undorfer carved a small cave out of it and placed a statue of Our Lady in it. Soon the beech tree with the figure of the Virgin became a secluded place of worship and a prayer stool was set up in front of the tree. Over the years this opening has closed and it has completely grown over.
Lambert Waldmann promised during World War I that he would build a chapel when he returned home healthy. He did this later after sustaining an eye injury while working in the woods. The chapel was built after the Second World War by an East Prussian refugee living with Waldmann and a second resident named Kerl. Waldmann himself could no longer participate in the construction of the chapel due to illness. The chapel was now named Maria zur Buche.
The chapel is still being maintained and walkers like to use it for a short prayer. It contains a small altar with three figures of saints, printed images and a small knee bench. On the side wall is a text of the Marian hymn with notes attached (Maria im Walde):
- Lonely still in the forest,
- I like to walk there
- is an old beech tree
- there is a portrait in it.
- It is the mother of God
- she blesses fields and woods,
- give help to everyone,
- who flows to her in faith.
The rifle club Alte Linde Undorf has taken care of the chapel for a number of years and on May 24, 1998 thoroughly renovated the little church. Pastor Karl Schreiber blessed the chapel after completing the work as part of a solemn May service, which has been taking place there every year on the last Sunday in May.
The Undorf firecrackers call for May prayer by firing firecrackers at the secondary school instead of the usual first and common ringing. The Alte Linde rifle guild invites all residents of Undorf to take part in the May service.
