Mary's reredos in Oberpleis

The Marien-Retabel in Oberpleis is an altar retable that was probably created after 1164 and is now in the Church of St. Pankratius .

history

The origin of the reredos is unknown. It is believed that it belonged to the original altar of the crypt . Since both the crypt of the Michaelsberg mother monastery and that of the Siegburg provost in Remagen are consecrated to the Mother of God, there was most likely also a Marien altar in the Oberpleis crypt .

description
