Marienkapelle (Isny im Allgäu)
The Marienkapelle in the Württemberg town of Isny im Allgäu ( district of Ravensburg ) was reserved for the monks of the Benedictine monastery of St. Georg until 1803 . After secularization , the monastery - from then on used as a castle and rebuilt - together with the Marienkapelle fell to the Princely House of Quadt , which used the church as a burial place . The chapel with its rococo furnishings in the choir, with the abbot images and the old choir stalls of the monks is well preserved. Together with the other buildings in the castle, it is a protected cultural monument .
Building
From the choir room of the Church of St. George and James , which was once reserved for the monks of the former Benedictine monastery, a side entrance on the right leads into the Marienkapelle. After the fire of 1631, the gem was restored in 1645. The choir with its high Gothic floor plan refers to the construction time around 1390. However, the baroque St. Mary's altar is integrated quite well into this polygonal choir.
The wooden coffered ceiling , divided into rectangular fields, bears recessed canvas oil paintings. The altar with a Gothic Mary and Child (15th century) is one of the most charming late rococo altars in the Swabian foothills of the Alps . It was completed in 1773 by Konrad Hegenauer .
The former choir stalls of the monks are located in the chapel nave. 48 oil paintings on the side walls and on the gallery are reminiscent of all the abbots of the Isny monastery.
