Marigen Hornkohl Venegas (born September 25, 1953 ) is a Chilean politician and diplomat .

Life

She was born the daughter of a German immigrant. She studied at the University of Heidelberg and worked for the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Santiago de Chile . Hornkohl is a member of the Partido Demócrata Cristiano de Chile . In 2000 she became Undersecretary for Social Affairs, from 2003 to 2005 for Education. From 2005 to 2006 she was appointed Chilean Minister of Education. After a time as Chilean ambassador to Germany , she became Minister of Agriculture in 2008. She held the office until 2010. She became a member of the board of directors of the Centro Democracia y Comunidad . In 2014 she took on the role of Executive Director of the National Television Council of Chile. Their term of office lasts until 2022.

Awards

On March 17, 2011, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in the German embassy in Santiago de Chile for her work for the Chilean-German cooperation .
