Marina di Ragusa

Marina di Ragusa is a fraction of the city of Ragusa in the Italian region of Sicily . It is located 25 km south of the city center of Ragusa directly on the sea.

The original fishing village was formerly called Mazzarelli (Arabic for "small suburb"). A lighthouse was built in the 14th century. In the middle of the 19th century, the small town grew as asphalt deposits were discovered in the area around Ragusa . The extracted asphalt was brought to Mazzarelli and loaded onto ships.

Another upswing began in 1960. Due to the extensive sandy beaches that surround Marina di Ragusa, a lively tourist center developed here.
