John Shute

John Shute († 1563 ) was an English miniature painter and author of treatises on architecture .

In 1550 Shute was sent to Italy by his patron, John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland , where he collected material for his work "The First and Chief Groundes of Architecture" (1563), an overview of the art of building. It was influenced by the writings of Sebastiano Serlio and saw four editions over the next fifteen years.
