The United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island ( MCRD Parris Island ) is a 34.4 square kilometer military facility in Beaufort , South Carolina that houses all male recruits who lived east of the Mississippi River when they were recruited, as well as all female recruits of the U.S. Marine Corps completing their basic training.

The basic training for recruits of the US Marine Corps , including Boot Camp called, lasts thirteen weeks in which the recruit from the civilian world is separated and at the same time learn to adapt to the world and the mindset of the Marines. During the training, the recruits learn not only general military skills, but also everything about hand-to-hand combat training for the Marines, hygiene and cleanliness, right through to the history of the Marines. Physical fitness is particularly emphasized. In order to pass the final exam, recruits have to perform a 54-hour exercise under particular stress (stress, food and sleep deprivation).
