The Naval Test Site Njonoksa (Russian: "Государственный центральный морской полигон") is a military test site of the Soviet Navy , later the Russian Navy of the Armed Forces of Russia on the White Sea . It is located north of Njonoksa and east of the settlement of Sopka (Сопка) in Arkhangelsk Oblast , Russian Federation , about 30 kilometers west of the port city of Severodvinsk .

history

The site was opened in 1954. Since the 1960s, all missiles by the Soviet Navy , including the R-29 and R-39 ballistic missiles, as well as anti -ship missiles P-500 basalt, P-700 granite and others, have been tested here.

In 2015 there was a missile accident. Parts hit Njonoksa.

On August 8, 2019, the Njonoksa nuclear accident occurred on a rocket launch platform, leaving several dead and injured. The accident was confirmed by Rosatom . The accident is probably connected with the work on the Burewestnik cruise missile . Radioactive strontium, barium and lanthanum isotopes were released, among other things. At least five Rosatom employees were killed.
