Mario Villarroel Lander

Mario Enrique Villarroel Lander (born September 21, 1947 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan lawyer .

After studying law at the Universidad Central de Venezuela , he obtained an LL.D. in criminology . He has currently been Professor of Criminal Law at the Universidad Santa María in Caracas and since 1978 President of the National Red Cross Society of his home country. In 1987 he took over from the Spaniard Enrique de la Mata Gorostizaga as President of the League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which was renamed the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies during his tenure in November 1991 . Astrid N. Heiberg from Norway was his successor in 1997 . In addition, he served as President of the Henry Dunant Institute in Geneva in 1992/1993 .

He has been married since 1969 and has three sons and a daughter.
