Marit Paulsen Eli (* 24. November 1939 in Oslo as Marit Bjørnerud ) is a Swedish writer and politician.

Paulsen, who had a German grandfather, was born in Norway six months before the German occupation . Formally, it is not considered a Tyskerbarn , but the climate of its time was considered very harsh. In the early 1960s she moved to Sweden, where she first worked in a rolling mill and then attended the adult education center at Brunnsviken before becoming a successful writer. Her most successful work is Liten Ida , which was inspired by the time of the Tyskerbarnen.

Politically, Paulsen has been part of the Folkpartiet liberalerna since 1998 , before that she was a member of the Socialdemokraterna . She was deputy leader of the Liberals for several years. From 1999 to 2004 she was a member of the European Parliament . In 2009 she ran again as the top candidate of the Folkpartiet liberalerna, and moved back into parliament. She received the highest number of people votes of all parliamentary candidates, which is due to her high popularity.

Paulsen has received two honorary doctorates.
