It equips the three remaining cable car lines (in Cape Gauge ) and the two regular standard-gauge tram lines F Market & Wharves and E Embarcadero of the San Francisco Municipal Railway ("Muni") with vehicles, including cars from Italy, Canada, Mexico and many Cities of the United States. history

The association was founded in 1976 and restored old tram cars of various origins. After the opening of the Market Street Subway , through which the still existing tram lines of the city were routed from 1980 (the last in November 1982), the Muni replaced the above-ground route with the bus line 8. The tracks remained, however, and from 1983 the association set up annually runs a tram service in the summer season, where the historic fleet was used on Market Street. The Muni-Line F has been running with the association's vehicles since 1985.

The railway depot is at Balboa Park and has been reached through Church Street since 1991 - previously via the Ingleside route (line K). Line F outward and inward travel as a line trip to Balboa Park. The association's restoration workshop is located on Buchanan Street. The association buys the vehicles with donations. Volunteers restore them and the association donates the operational railways to the Muni, which they use on the lines mentioned. Volunteers from the association clean the vehicles at the Castro terminal of Line F during operation.

The E Embarcadero line was introduced on August 1, 2015 on existing tracks and connects Fisherman's Wharf with the Caltrain station on the Embarcadero harbor promenade. Initially, it only ran on weekends, and from April 23, 2016 also on weekdays.
