The Markiesje is a non- FCI recognized dog breed from the Netherlands .
Origin and history
The dog type "Markiesje" looks back on a long tradition; Dogs of this appearance can be found in pictures from the 17th and 18th centuries. In the mid-1970s, some breeders began to adopt the dog breed, which was in danger of being forgotten, and founded the interest group Vereniging voor Liefhebbers van het Markiesje . In 1999 the Dutch breeders' association Raad van Beheer op Kynologische gebied in Nederland recognized these efforts as a Dutch dog breed. However, the stud book has been kept open to this day in order to continue to include breeding animals that meet the breed standard but have not yet been officially registered.
description
The Markiesje is a very versatile dog. Although it is unofficially assigned to FCI Group 9 (society dogs), it is a sporty dog that also likes to be challenged, for example with agility , dog dancing or flyball . The standard requires an ideal height of 37 cm for males and 35 cm for females, with a tolerance of 3 cm downwards and 2 cm upwards. It weighs six to eight kilograms. Medium-length black, close-fitting, shiny fur, also with white markings, clothe the dog. According to the breed standard, the white markings must not be more than 40%. Brown fur color is allowed in the Markiesje, but rather undesirable. The ears are worn hanging down slightly protruding from the head. The legs are well feathered.
Essence
The Markiesje is a "solid" dog who has no special demands on the owner. Compatible with other dogs and other pets, it blends in well with the domestic community.
