Markus Engelhardt

Markus Engelhardt (* 1956 in Gießen ) is a German musicologist at the DHI in Rome.

Engelhardt studied musicology, philosophy and psychology at the University of Würzburg and received his doctorate in 1986.

From 1984 to 1986 he took the opportunity to do a research stay at the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Verdiani in Parma. From 1986 to 1988 he was a fellow of the DFG . From 1988 to 1989 he worked as an assistant at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . From 1989 he was a research assistant for five years at the Research Institute for Music Theater of the University of Bayreuth in Thurnau Castle . In 1995 and 1996 he was director of the German Study Center in Venice.

Engelhardt has been head of the music history department of the German Historical Institute in Rome since 1997.

Engelhardt is married and has four children.
