Markus Leitner (* around 1967 ) is a Swiss diplomat and ambassador to Iran .

biography

Leitner comes from Zurich and studied economics. He worked in industry, trade and the financial sector until he moved to the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in 1996 . There he was responsible for liberating Switzerland from its role as a hub for blood diamonds .

He was on missions in South Africa and Chile .

In 2013 he was appointed Ambassador to Egypt and later Ambassador to Iran.

Leitner has two grown children.
